A Crispy Delight for Your Salad Bowl

The Prizehead lettuce is growing well here at the Veggie-Bed. Early morning pickings of leaves have produced countless salads.

Prizehead lettuce, also known as ‘Prize Head’ and ‘Early Prize Head,’ is an heirloom variety that dates back to the late 19th century. Despite its name, it’s a non-heading, leaf, or loose-headed lettuce. The leaves are upright, deeply curled, broad, and light green, with a slight reddish blush on the tips. This flavorful lettuce is prized for its unique crinkly texture and is excellent for salads. It’s also slow to bolt, meaning it doesn’t quickly go to seed. So, if you’re looking for a tasty addition to your garden, Prizehead lettuce is a wonderful choice!
