Meet Lucy-Lou, my most loyal companion. We crossed paths at the funeral reception that my kindhearted cousins hosted for my mother. At that time, I was struggling with depression, alcohol, and prescription drug abuse. After the reception, my family walked with me to a barn where I met an adorable 8-week-old puppy who captured my heart and soul. Seeing my affection for her, they graciously offered her to me (I can never thank them enough for this).
From day one, Lucy-Lou has been the guiding light in my life. After a night of self-destruction, I woke up to find this precious puppy at the foot of my bed, seeking my attention. Since then, she has been my companion down the bumpy road of recovery. She has shown me unwavering loyalty and love; and taught me patience and commitment.
I want to express my sincere gratitude to my family in North Carolina for their unselfish compassion. And to Lucy-Lou, thank you for giving me a reason to keep going.
