Gobbler’s Serenade: A Suburban Overture

In the quiet hours of a suburban morning, a symphony unfolds. At the heart of this overture stands a magnificent gobbler –

Picture this: a suburban morning where dew-kissed grass sparkles under the early sunlight. Here at the Veggie-Bed stands a magnificent gobbler—a creature of iridescent feathers displaying shades of bronze, copper, and deep green. His head, adorned with fleshy wattles and curious eyes, bobs rhythmically as he pecks at the ground, foraging for birdseed.

As I stand mesmerized at the back door, I reach for my phone to capture this enchanting moment. My timing is imperfect; the gobbler dashes off like the legendary Road Runner, leaving me with a fleeting memory.

But this encounter isn’t our first dance with wild turkeys at the Veggie-Bed. Last Thanksgiving, we hosted a gobbler and a hen, their presence a bittersweet reminder of nature’s resilience even in the heart of a suburban neighborhood.

And so, with a mix of awe and melancholy, I watch the gobbler fade into the distance, knowing that despite his proximity, he remains a world away from the wild expanses where he truly belongs.
